Care Information
On this page, you'll find our basic care guide, a first aid kit checklist, and information on what is needed to prep your geckos in case of an emergency.
-Basic Care Guide-
We have taken the time and created a basic care guide below. This is continuously changed and updated as time passes and new information is available for care. It is important to also do your own research as there are many other sources available. You can also find this guide at every Reptile Expo we attend and they are free to take with you.
-First Aid Kit-
In order to be prepared for a reptile medical emergency, make sure you have the following items in your reptile first aid kit:
-
Tweezers
-
Q-tips
-
Paper towel
-
Disposable gloves
-
Betadine
-
ReptAid
-
Calcium (powdered or liquid)
-
Chlorhexidine
-
Polysporin (without pain relief)
-
Hydrogen peroxide
-
Syringe
-
Deli-cup (or equivalent for creating a “sauna”)
It is also very important to have an exotic veterinarian’s information on hand as well.
-Emergency Kits-
Depending on how many crested geckos you have, I highly recommend purchasing an appropriately sized shipping winter kit for those “just in case” moments. Extreme weather and other emergency situations can occur and it is best to be prepared!
Reptile Express can be a great source to grab a basic winter shipping kit to have on hand. It is also important to have Deli-cups (I recommend the 16oz for adults as a minimum) to place your geckos in.

Emergency kit checklist:
-
Styrofoam box
-
Deli-cups
-
At least two 60-hour heat packs (please do not use hand warmers, as these are unsafe for reptiles).
-
Cryo-packs
-
Digital thermometer
-
Misting bottle
-
Paper towel
In case of evacuation, it’s always good to have a water bottle and small package of crested gecko food with a couple of small dishes on hand as well.

There is a really well done write up with images and directions from Northern Gecko. Please take a look at their Reptile Owners: How to prepare for extreme weather events article.
